Dallas Startup Happy Hour (Request for Comments)

http://www.jobnob.com/files/happy_hour_2.pngFor the past two years Scott and I have hosted the Dallas Startup Happy Hour the first Monday of each month. Starting about five in the evening between twenty and a hundred twenty entrepreneurs get together each month to share a beer, a story and perhaps even a business proposition. The idea was born out of a simply question, “Why does the startup scene suck so bad here in Dallas?”

The answer was immediately obvious to us. Because we aren’t doing anything about it. We decided that it might make sense host a happy hour by and for entrepreneurs. We figured this might be a good first step. Lots of other folks have stepped into the fold hosting all sorts of VERY cool events and programs for entrepreneurs here in Dallas including:

Recently we learned that the building isn’t really excited about us hosting the event here in the INFOMART. So much so that we know that May’s event WON’T be held in the High Tech bar. Some of you old timers may recall our first happy hour was at the Ritz Rattlesnake Bar. Great scene – crazy expensive for most entrepreneurs ($10 valet, $25 wells and so on). I reached out to Blake Burris at CoHabitat about holding the next startup happy hour at his location, but I am a little concerned about parking. Any thoughts on a great venue? I think consistency is important for most of us (well mainly me). Having the event on the same day is helpful since my wife expects me to be late and having the event at the same place is helpful since I won’t forget where it is being held. What are your thoughts? New venue? Or roaming venue? Maybe summer (since attendance goes down) is the best time to experiment. Let me know.
