43 Best Blog Experiment

You may recall I got tired of all of the 50, 100, 1000 best blog sites popping up so I asked our Big in Japan team to create the 43 Best Blogs Wiki. We launched it back on February 28th and Tara Hunt’s Horse Pig Cow blog was the first to be added (SwampLog by Amie was deleted to make room). As I recall Tara said she did not make the change.

Lots of people thought it was for real (I guess it was), but several folks got it right away like Zoli and Jeff. The funny thing is that it is April and people are still adding and deleting blogs on the list. Check out the history here. There is even a spin-off of the experiment called 33 Wikis.

Update: during the launch of the 43 best blogs projects I created an upcoming event for the 43 best bloggers.  This week Valleywag mentioned it as one of the things to to this week in their “To-do: B-listers need not apply” post:

Thursday: You are so not cool enough for this event (until you change the wiki). Only the 43 best bloggers (Upcoming) are allowed at an exclusive House of Shields meetup. (Oh hell, sneak in. What’ll they do, take you off their blogrolls?)

    I’m confused…

When it first went up, I thought 43 best bloggers was a call for user input.

Then, by reading this blog, it was a hoax, which is cool, I’m all for hoaxes.

But 43 best blogs is appearing on Valleywag, does that mean it is not a hoax? I am not a VC, is valleywag like The Onion ( fake news )?

P.S. look for my new site 43 best hoaxes : )
